Today's Works for Me idea is very simple. It helps me keep my van much cleaner. The garbage cans sit on the driver's side in our garage. So, when I drive in, I stop by them and have the kid's pass up the garbage so I can throw it out the window into the trash. Kind of like the reverse of a fast food stop!
(I also often will give a specific number of items I want each person to bring in when we get home. This helps keep down the accumulation of other items.)

ReplyDeleteExcellent idea! We usually have to purge the van of trash once a week... when the door of the van can't be opened without trash pouring out onto the pavement! Very embarrassing on Sunday mornings in the church parking lot!

ReplyDeleteExcellent idea! I agree that just setting up the trashcans so we walk by them, and telling each of the kids to pick up one thing when we head in, would make a HUGE difference in this never-ending chore.
ReplyDeleteYou must have been in my van recently to post this tip! Right now our garage is dominated by a certain hubby (I won't name names) who is into woodworking. But once the snow starts he's outta there and I'll position the garbage cans accordingly. Great tip!

ReplyDeleteI have a rule about my van: there's absolutely-positively NO eating or drinking inside of it. Period.
The only exception is while traveling which is pretty hard for me to watch...candy, wrappers, crumbs...oh the humanity, I keep tons of bags ready for all the trash.
Having your drive-thru trash is brilliant! More than that, Super-brilliant.
