It's Wednesday! Today's Works for Me Wednesday is about studying the scriptures as a family. We used to be really consistent about reading the scriptures together as a family at bedtime. As the kids have gotten older and our evenings have filled with activities, our bedtimes became crazier and our family scripture study slackened way off. We've recently come up with a solution that seems to be working for us.
Our oldest has to leave for the bus at 6:45 am, so we have started having breakfast together at 6:30 am. While we usually like to visit during meals, we found we were all a bit cranky at breakfast. So, we do our scripture study then. At first I would read, while they ate. But, then we started listening to the scriptures being read for free on the internet here. It is working great, so far. Having someone else reading them allows me to have my hands busy pouring juice or cutting the baby's pancakes. (And I can eat, too!)And it is a great way to start our day! Works for Me!

breakfast seems to work for us too-
ReplyDeleteNettie- you rock! I had no idea that you can have the internet READ for you! What an awesome idea. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea. I eat my brakfast before the kids so I can help thme in scripture memory during their breakfast. I dont have a computer in the kitchen but this gives me the idea that I could do this by using cassette tape.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!! I will have to remember that for when my kids are a little older....bedtime is still working out pretty well for us.
ReplyDeletecool idea, I am going to check that out.
ReplyDeleteNettie you so totally rock!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip.
I totally did not know that was on there! You rock! We used to do the breakfast thing too, I need to get back on it now that I'm not up 6 times a night.
ReplyDeletethis is a great idea, but we don't have the opportunity to do it at breakfast since my kids eat at school. We are still trying to figure out what is the best time.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea...are your kids good at listening or do you have to remind them to listen?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the internet reading tip :-)
Oh, I definitely have to remind them! Listening on the internet has now freed my hands to do frequent large hand motions meaning, "It is not talking time! Pipe down and listen!" You'd think they'd still be half asleep, or at least too busy chewing!
ReplyDeletethat is brilliant i had no clue they read them out loud! thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteSheesh - I've tried to comment on this sicne you posted it... I love your idea! I am so going to use it. :)
ReplyDeleteMy kids are still young enough that bedtime works, but during breakfast with all my cranky pants would work well by having some uplifting scripture study first thing. Once again, Nettie you are a genious.
