Works For Me Wednesday: Free Holiday Decor
I love the fun holiday crafts my kids come home with. School teachers can come up with the cutest ideas! But, what do you do with them? You can't save every piece of artwork your kids ever make, but it seems a shame to throw them out after the holiday is over. So, we save ours with the holiday decorations and decorate the house with them. I always write the child's name and grade on the back, so we remember who made what. The kids get a big kick out of seeing not only the things they made, but also the things their teenaged sibling made in 1st grade, etc. And taping them up is a decorating activity that they can easily do themselves. Naturally, after years of use, many of the decorations start to fall apart and need to be discarded at the end of the season, but I no longer feel bad about chucking them, since we have been able to get many years of enjoyment out of them!

Great idea, Nettie! I love the new look on your new blog.
ReplyDeleteOh...I forgot...and your home decorated for the holidays? Beautiful. You have such flair.
ReplyDeleteSweet idea! As a teacher it is nice to see the crafts appreciated!
ReplyDeletegreat idea, too many crafts are always a problem and noone wants to part with any of their masterpieces!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Your home looks beautiful btw!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I will have to do the same with my kids crafts...I have kept all of my daughters so far but most of them aren't being put to good use! What about laminating them to keep them alive longer? Wonder if it would help? Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI post the stuff they make for just that christmas and then throw it out unless its an ornament. But now I'm taking your suggestion and keeping it. What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! My 2 year old came home with his first ornament from the nursery at church today! We'll start this now! I just need to remember to date them...
ReplyDeleteI love the decorations. I haven't seen those before. Teachers really do have great crafts for the kids to do.
ReplyDeleteWe do this also. One idea if there are some that are really good that you want to last a little longer is to laminate them.
I have the decorations my Mom had when we were growing up. They were not ones we brought home from school but were the ones we put up every year. I laminated them and we use them in our home now. It is great to share those memories I had with my kids now.
Sorry long comment.
Great tip!
ReplyDeleteI do this to, but I let the kids put their things in their own rooms since they want to decorate their rooms up for Christmas. I have a small storage container for each kid to put all their Christmas items in including their stockings and tree ornaments. That way they know what is theirs and they stack nicely in my storage.
ReplyDeleteHi Nettie, it has been so long!!! I am glad to see that things are going well at your home!! Hey . . . did I hear that you are pregnant? I am a bit out of the loop so if you are not, just disregard this!! :))
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! I've hung some stuff up before, but it usually gets tossed after that holiday. I feel really guilty doing it so that would be a nice way to appreciate the decorations longer! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, cool post. I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real hard work to make a great article… but I put things off too much and never seem to get started. Thanks though. what's this song
